Publisher's Description:
HDD Temperature - There are many reasons why hard-drives get damaged, and overheating is probably the most common one.
If you remember your physics lessons well, you know that spinning something at several thousand revolutions per minute causes heat, plenty of heat. That is why servers and computers have coolers, fans and other gadgets that prevent overheating. But as fans get plugged, coolers stop working, or too many hard-drives get added - the risk of "frying" your HDDs and losing data increases drastically. So how do you monitor your HDD temperature to make sure you data is always save? Simply download HDD Temperature from PalickSoft.
This utility comes in two versions - regular and pro. The regular version is intended for home users who have only single hard-drive and is totally free. Using S.M.A.R.T. technology included in all modern HDDs, HDD Temperature checks and monitors the temperature of your hard drives; you can also set the maximum value of drive temperature so that you will be warned should this temperature be exceeded.
S.M.A.R.T. stands for "Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology" and is currently the most advanced technology in this field; this technology was developed by HDD manufacturers and is supported by IBM, Maxtor, Seagate, Hitachi and many others.
HDD Temperature Pro is created specially for small and large companies that have many computers and need to monitor multiple hard-drives. This "beefed up" version has several features that the regular version does not. For example, it can monitor several HDDs simultaneously and can send warning messages to a specified e-mail address or certain computer in the network. Importantly, it can automatically force overheated system to hibernate, protecting both HDD and unsaved data. You also can run this application as network service, making this tool is ideal for corporate networks.

This program didnt work for me, but I dont think thats the programs fault
Before I installed the drivers for my 785e chipset and SMBus I could veiw HDD, ram, CPU and motherboard temperatures
But as soon as the drivers were installed the HDD info wasnt available.
I tried this program to see if a different app would hit the hardware directly rather than taking what the driver says as gospel but to no avail
So all I can comment on is the install, appearance and removal of this program. All of which seemed flawless
Sorry I couldnt be of more help to anyone

- HDD Temp doesn't work on hardware RAID drives, which is not unexpected as the RAID BIOS makes the RAID drives appear as a single drive. - HDD Temp doesn't store custom settings after you enter them. - HDD Temp is OK for spot checking drive temp after you setup a system but not for continuous use.

I tried it and it didn't work. I am running 4 seagate disks in a raid 10 array (Intel - on an Asus P6X58D motherboard) ... and unfortunately there is no software that will read these disk temperatures as long as they are in the array.

It doesn't seem to work with windows 7 x64 for some reason. Win 7 doesn't seem to see any of the drives "smart" info. I know win7 isn't out yet but just fyi.

Downloaded the software and it installed cleanly. The software is very small and seems to have virtually zero impact on system resources. It measured all of my drives properly (though I tried a USB external hard drive and it didn't see it but I want to troubleshoot more before saying it didn't work). In summary, I am quite happy with the software and recommend it.

I tried it out and find it interesting and am happy it works so well. The toshiba laptop my son owns was having a problem with drive failure due to over heating. At least now we can monitor the drive temperature when it is running. Thanks

Not working for my SATA drives
All my Sata drives do not register as Smart drives. I have only one IDE drive. HDD Temperature sees that one. Below are my personal ratigns due to it not seeing most of my drives. If you know how I may change this, I can revise opinion and likely purchase.

A good program
I've tested this program on my new system, it works well showing the temperature of my new SATA drive. It runs quite cool at 38 degrees Celsius. I put in a efficient cooling case fan that ciculates cool air through the case and the airflow passes over the drive directly. Thank you. I do beta testing with various monitoring programs and operating systems on a regular basis. I belong to a few diagnostic forums and offer sound advice to people with computer problems, hardware and software and networking. I would be happy to test future programs. Lose the bars
I use a small screen font so I can fit more work on my monitor. The temperature display on the taskbar is very hard to read. This is made even worse by the little bar displayed above and below the number. If they lose the bars the numbers would be more legible for everyone. Otherwise, the software works well as claimed and the settings screen is well done. And the price is right!

Better than manufacturers own software
Using software from Seagate, my Maxtor/Seagate drive reported a temp of 253 C. HDD Temp reported a more reasonable temp of 32 C, and stopped me from replacing a perfectly good drive.

Not impressed.
Software was not that impressive and I did not feel there was an accurate reading that was given.
